Video games and virtual reality are two distinct forms of entertainment that appeal to people ranging in age from toddlers to middle-aged adults. As kids come home from school to play video games, these objects become normalized in their daily lives.

You’re probably wondering why I’m writing an article about video games and virtual reality, and what makes them so special. I’m writing this article to open people’s eyes, not to encourage them to play video games, but to show them how video games are far better compared to our daily lives.

You may have heard phrases like “video games are bad for kids” or “games lead to poor mental health.” These are things to be aware of, but they usually only occur if the games are played excessively or if the child plays video games to the point of addiction. But I should consider why people become addicted to video games. What is it about these common games that makes them so appealing and enjoyable to play?

For starters, video games allow people to travel to different worlds. Whether it’s a jungle, a post-apocalyptic world, ancient times, or a fantasy world, video games allow you to immerse yourself in different worlds and events. You can play as the character, unlock artifacts, go on missions, and meet interesting people along the way.

People become addicted because they enjoy immersing themselves in a new world that is different from their normal, dull lifestyle. As a high school student, I find it frustrating that I have to spend my current years going to school for 6 hours and then coming home to do homework and assignments. Even participating in extracurricular activities no longer entertains me because everything becomes repetitive after a while.

So the question is, why should we confine ourselves to a simple world and engage in repetitive activities when we can spend our time entertaining ourselves in an entirely different world? Because our daily actions limit our potential, why do we accept our daily lives as they are?

Instead of doing chores and housework, using video games, we can spend some of our time in the day traveling through forests and actually seeing and meeting new things. At the end of the day, you can tell yourself that you actually enjoyed your day and that it was worthwhile rather than saying it was just another long, boring day.

Another device, virtual reality goggles, have been created to allow people to enter virtual worlds directly. By putting the goggles over your eyes, you can enter a completely different world, free of the monotony of your everyday life. Although it is not recommended to use this frequently because it is bad for your eyesight, people still find more excitement in virtual worlds than in real life. The invention of Virtual Reality and Virtual Goggles merely demonstrates that devices were required in order for humans to escape boredom.

I want you to consider the quality of our lives after learning about the concept of video games and virtual reality headsets. Are we limited to our experiences in different worlds, or have we just realized that we can do so much more than spend a day at school or working?
